Why “Adminisaurus?”
ADMINISTRATOR
Let’s tackle the obvious first. I am, by trade, a systems administrator. Systems Engineer, SysAdmin, Wintel Admin, Systems Support Technician, Helpdesk, IT Manager, Sr. Manager Systems/Network… All titles I’ve had at one point in my career. I don’t want to offend any real engineers, so I just claim I’m a Sys Admin… thus the first part of the name.
MOORE’S LAW (saurus 2)
The second part of why the “saurus” is that I actually feel old. 🙂 Maybe not old as in I am going to retire, but old as in… maybe I am not “agile” enough to keep up with the ever/quickly changing tech industry. Just when I grasp virtualization concepts… containers and Kubernetes introduce themselves. It seems that the older I get, the harder it is to apply my old knowledge, so I, as well, have to continually upgrade.
LATE BLOOMER (saurus 1)
The “saurus” part is actually a triple meaning. Firstly due to the fact I consider myself a late bloomer when it comes to tech. I was in my mid-20s when I decided to go into tech as a career. Kids these days are born with a tablet in their hand and can do what I could do as an adult as a 12-year-old.
BONUS REASON (sore-us 3)
So, by looking at me, you would never know that I was a 3 sport athlete in elementary school and high school. I broke my ankle ending my athletic career as a high school junior (Go Knights!). Until my early thirties, I still worked out, but… when I got married, had kids, and started to concentrate on my career, “time” was a luxury I didn’t have much of.
So, now, after old injuries are starting to rear their ugly heads… I now feel physically old. 🙂
